Annapolis Maryland

Annapolis Maryland is a beautiful state capital. Our family has visited several times to tour the United States Naval Academy. We also enjoyed walking downtown and along the waterfront, where there are many shops and restaurants. On one of our trips we took the kids on a bay cruise... beautiful! If you are ever in Maryland be sure to stop in Annapolis. It is a jewel of a city.

Wasilla Alaska

Just what is Wasilla? It's a little town in Alaska, made famous by vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. So just in case you want to stop by there for a visit, here are some facts:
City Of Wasilla website
It is named for the Sarmatian god of the same name.
It began as a trading post and grew because the railroad came through and a station was built in Wasilla.
It was incorporated as a city in 1974.
Alaskans voted down a ballot initiative to move the capital of Alaska to Wasilla in 1994.
Now famous Sarah Palin was Wasilla's governor from 1996 to 2002.
Wasilla has between 5,000 - 6,000 residents as of the 2000 census.

Visit America's Zoos When You Travel

Everyone loves beautiful animals. Young or old, you can't beat a trip to the local zoo. I have fond memories of watching monkeys and elephants at play, seeing exotic birds or being awed by the sound of a lion roaring. Yes, they really are that loud!
So when you plan your next vacation, include a destination with a great Zoo. A day with the animals can make you appreciate nature's wonderful, complex variety. And while you're there, be sure and take some snapshots to bring home with you.
Here is a link to a listing of America's Top Zoos:

And here are some beautiful nature photography gifts that feature Zoo animals in beautiful settings.

HotRodding Around The USA

I live in York County Pennsylvania. Every year in June, the NSRA (National Street Rods Of America) holds an annual Street Rod Nationals East event in the City of York. And what would a convention be without a lot of hotrodding around the area? Even though we are 20 miles away from the convention, our little town gets plenty of Hot Rods cruising through during that weekend as owners proudly display their beautiful cars. I look forward to it every year.
These wonderful HotRod postage stamps reminded me of that yearly event:

Wherever You Travel, The Earth Is Our Home

I went to the grocery store yesterday and they had a big display rack of canvas bags for customers to buy and use for packing their grocery orders. People are definitely concerned with the environment and our beautiful planet. After all, why would we want to travel and take all those vacations to places around our USA, if the cities and countryside we visit were to lose their appeal due to pollution, climate change or overuse of their resources.
So today I'd like to feature some great t-shirts and gifts from Cowpie Creek that raise awareness about our earth and our responsibility to protect and care for the country we love.

Travel Green When You Go On Vacation

Here are some suggestions for lightening your footprint as you travel on vacation based on an article by Kathy Shorr of The Green Guide:
1. When you go on vacation choose one spot to visit and stay there instead of touring.
2. Consider taking the train! The US Dept Of Energy says Amtrak is 20% more energy efficient than air travel.
3. Vacation closer to home. Make a list of all the local places you've never visited yet and try them out the next you need some R & R.
4. How about a biking or hiking vacation? Leave the car behind and spend your vacation time communing with nature or at least biking the area you choose to visit.
